An international platform for innovative, original and creative emerging fashion designers
For many years now the IAF International Designer Awards have been one of the highlights of the annual IAF World Apparel Conventions. This catwalk show offers designers from all over the world a platform which recognises and rewards the next generation of future designers.
The IAF Designer Awards are an exciting opportunity for designers to network, develop collaborations with other international designers, industry contacts, high profile guest judges, media and gain professional experience.
There are no designer restrictions, sections or specifications for collections, other than an emphasis on innovation, originality, creativity, fabrics, quality and extension.
Objectives
The objective of the IAF International Designer Award is to invite and encourage prominent designers to participate in this prestigious contest. By strengthening the exchange among IAF member associations, international fashion design is promoted among the most influential decision-makers in the apparel industry.
All IAF member associations are invited to participate in this event, by nominating one designer from their country, who has been in the business for at least 3 years, to take part in the contest.
The Designer Award takes place every year in a different country and the collection is focused on ladies’ wear for the Summer season.
The Process
To enter, submit a collection of three (3) outfits in the form of a photograph of the collections and relevant accessories on a maximum of 2 A4 sheets. Please include one image of the front of the collection and one of the back view of the collection.
There are no specifications as to the market of the collection. Participants are free to use any fabric/material that they choose and no design restrictions apply. Participants are to include technical drawings and descriptions of fabrics used for each of the outfits entered on a maximum of 2 A4 pages.
Participants are to include a copy of their passport and a headshot picture of themselves. And last but not least a description of approximately 200 words (in English) explaining the inspiration of the collection and design concepts for the judging.
Regulations
Nomination form, design sketches, concept descriptions and photographs will not be returned.
It is essential that the garments that you send to the IAF Designer Awards for judging correspond exactly to the drawings/photographs you have entered and that all works are original for both design and facture. IAF will disqualify the designer’s participation should this prove to be untrue. All pictures received before the show and taken during the show can be used for IAF promotion purpose.

Criteria of Judgement
Judges are looking for innovation, originality, creativity, fabrics and quality of the collections. Judges will expect garments that are constructed in a professional manner and their final judgement of the designs will be on basis of creativity (40%) and marketability (60%).
The panel of judges will be made up of a prominent designer, a fashion journalist and a well known manufacturer, representing the United States, Asia and Europe.
The designers will receive a detailed programme regarding the IAF International Designer Awards judging schedule and show.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence concerning the results will be entered into. Within two weeks after the show each participant will receive feedback on the judges’ comments on their collections.
Ownership of outfits
All garments remain the property of the participants. IAF retains the right to use images of the outfits to promote the designers and the event.
Insurance of outfits
It is the designer’s responsibility to insure the outfits. All care will be taken to ensure the safe keeping of the outfits while being at the IAF World Apparel Convention venue. IAF cannot be held responsible for any damage or theft of the garments.
